Mrs. Fowler
He completed his undergraduate studies from Newman University in Education and his master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Emporia State University. He has additional hours in related education and scientific fields from Kansas State University, Purdue University, Fort Hays University, Eastern Michigan University, State University of New York, and Midamerica Nazarene University.
He has been a National Board Certified Teacher in Adolescence Science since 2006, and was selected to be an Einstein Fellow on assignment with the National Science Foundation in Washington DC during the 2009-2010 school year. He has served as a teacher/scientist at the Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque NM for three summers, researching hydrogen fuel cells, alternate fuel sources, and water quality.
He continues to share his passion of lifelong learning with his students, as he is currently completing his third year at TPA modeling the philosophy of research-based concepts like Problem Based Learning.
Barbara Fowler graduated from Emporia State University with a degree in secondary education. Her teaching fields include the social sciences, communication, and English. Fowler began her teaching career at Hartford High School as and English and communications teacher. She then moved to Emporia Middle School where she taught American History for thirty-two years.
Mrs. Fowler earned her Master's Degree in Integrated Studies from Wasburn University in 2011. In 2000 she was the first teacher in USD 253 to completed National Board Certification. Her area of certification is in Adolescence Social Sciences. She later the renewed the process in 2010.
Mrs. Fowler says, "I am thrilled to be a part of Turning Point Academy. The focus on project based learning and my personal understanding of curriculum integration make it a perfect fit." Mrs. Fowler has an extensive list of awards including Kansas Master Teacher and ESU Distinguished Alumni.
