In our English Language Arts class, we wrote a heritage poem. I decided to do a heritage poem on one of my dogs, because I didn’t have anything about my heritage I want to write about. I made the poem simple, because it fits my dog. The poem is about my dog, George. I spend so much time with him, because I didn’t do the same to my other dog, Snickerdoodle, when he was young. George considers me as his “mommy.” Here is how the poem goes:

A Dog’s Life

“I am George! I got a home.

No, I do not live in Rome.

My mommy loves me so much!

She feeds me dinner and lunch.

I get walked everyday.

And after that, I just lay

anywhere that pleases me,

because I’m such a piggy.

I don’t want to be alone,

so Mommy gave me a home.”

The poem is in first person and my dog is narrating it. The whole poem is about George’s heritage during his everyday life. The second line says he does not live in Rome, because his breed was used for Roman wars and for bloody Roman arena spectacles. On line eight, he describes himself as a piggy. I classify a piggy if a person/animal is buff, smart, and stubborn. I am pretty proud of this poem and it makes me chuckle every time.
